There's No Place Like Home (2019)
Project Type
Sculpture
Date
2019
Location
Manchester, UK
Role
Sculptor
Using memory, I reconstructed my grandparents' house with the use of Biodegradable PLA filament and a 3D pen. Both grandparents had passed away by the time of construction, with little to no photographs of the place I once called home. 2011 would be the last year I ever stepped foot inside there, with nothing but happy memories to continue from.
The choice of coloured filament was crucial, as too was the structure itself. To emphasize the memories that were once had, white filament was used. The structure itself was starting to become flimsy due to the memories fading away. However, once displayed in a dark room, with the use of a torch, the piece will be illuminated and create projections to a point where you can travel through the space that there once was.
This piece was originally exhibited in the MMU Degree Show "Everything Starts with Something" (2019) to then sold in Gallery Oldham's "Oldham Open" (2019).
