The National Gallery Masterpiece Tour at Gallery Oldham
Project type
Touring Exhibition and Curatorial Tour
Date
2019-2021
Location
Oldham, Greater Manchester (UK)
The National Gallery Masterpiece Tour at Gallery Oldham is a recent project that has seen the Gallery Oldham participating in a partner meeting at The National Gallery in London in 2019. The project was set back due to the pandemic. However, the piece was finally displayed in 2021.
The project also involved assisting in the selection and installation of works, including labelling at Gallery Oldham. Researching artworks within the collection at Gallery Oldham was critical as to plan themes for the exhibition. These needed to correlate with the touring piece Helene Rouart in her father’s study (1886) Degas. Knowledge gained from researching the works helped the public to appreciate and engage with the artwork and historical context. The National Gallery Masterpiece Tour at Gallery Oldham was led by a curatorial tour and included discussions of themes presented, as well as an exploration of the local history of Oldham on November 10, 2021. Additionally, illustrative activity sheets were designed to engage the community and provide a deeper understanding of the exhibition themes and artworks.
